our tipis - Cornish Tipi Holidays
our tipis
We’ve got around a dozen North American style tipis made of cotton canvas on a framework of wooden lodge poles, bound with twine and hessian rope. These majestic structures reach up to more than 18 feet high, giving you a generous living area. Compared to an ordinary tent, a tipi interior gives you an amazing sense of space and light.
Each tipi is fitted with an external hat or interior lining to keep out the rain - although in bad conditions (driving rain, severe winds etc) we cannot guarantee that any canvas structure will be completely weather or wildlife proof. Drips, leaks, muddy doorways etc are all part of camping in a typical British summer - it's why the Cornish countryside is so beautifully green! Please bear this in mind before booking with us - especially if you think a hotel or B&B might suit you better. Fair weather camping cannot be guaranteed.
All the tipis are equipped with the basics you might need for your visit, custom-made groundsheets (just so you know, these aren't attached to the main canvas as tipis aren't manufactured as sealed units like modern tents, so sometimes you get gaps!), warm Turkish rugs and fairy lights or mini-festoons. But this is real camping - so no beds! You bring your own bedding and you might like to bring an airbed or camping mattress if you prefer things more cosy. See what to bringwhat to bring for a list of the extras you might need.
Tipis in the Top Village Field are left plain for you to add a nice comfy airbed or similar for your tipi adventure. With our lovely onsite cafe @thetipikitchen (open in mid and peak season only) you shouldn't need much else! If you would prefer to add in some kitchen kit, you can do this at time of booking.
When it comes to the Private Site tipis, you’ll get everything as above plus your own camping mats, camp stove and cool box and a hand made wooden camping table inside. You'll need to bring your own crockery & cutlery, pots & pans - which of course you can cook with on your outside fire.
Our tipis come in two sizes, medium & large and all come with a picnic table with bench seating for outdoor meals and a fire pit/fire area for cooking and stargazing!
The medium tipi usually sleeps a couple or up or 2 adults and 2 small children but if you're bringing a travel cot we advise booking a large tipi.
The large tipi usually sleeps a family or 4-5 adults and 4-6 if at least one is a child but to comply with Health & Safety requirements we cannot allow any more than 6, including babies.
There are 8 tipis in the Village Field (x4 medium and x4 large), and the rest on Private Sites situated singly in private clearings. Private sites have their own area bordered by trees and hedges. Although private the sites are sometimes quite close to others and you'll usually see the tops of tipis nearby and hear your neighbours’ voices.

wild camping - Cornish Tipi Holidays
wild camping
If you want to come & stay with us but want to give your camping kit an airing, bring your own tent or campervan & all your own gear – no problem.
We’ve got some of the prettiest pitches in Cornwall, whether you fancy staying in the meadow area with other people or prefer a private spot – just like the tipi set up you’ve got the choice of sociability or seclusion.
If you go for privacy there’s larger pitches with picnic tables that will take big modern family tents or smaller spaces in woodland or high above the lake that are much snugger & perfect camping for two.
You get to use all the same facilities as the tipi dwellers; hot & cold showers, flushing or composting loos, campfires & the glorious lake with its boats & jetties, swimming & fishing for free. There’s woodland paths to stroll down & twigs to pick up for kindling, buzzards soaring overhead & wild flowers (the children can even pick some if they like – just not the orchids!) in the hedgerows. Pink campions & lacy cow parsley in a bottle or jar make your tent feel like home from home.
Campervans & Caravans: Sorry - but no hard standing, no electrical hook-ups, no solid or liquid waste disposal & no water lines for re-filling water tanks. All park ups are on meadow grass.
Some campers bring bunting & flags, splitting axes for firewood and their own solar panels for an off Grid supply – other just shake out a pop up tent & head for the beach - 5 mins to the nearest one for an Atlantic swim (Port Gaverne) & less than 15 to one of the best surf spots in Cornwall (Polzeath).

The Tipi Kitchen - Cornish Tipi Holidays
The Tipi Kitchen
We've got a fantastic on-site cafe The Tipi Kitchen which is sited at the far end of the meadow camping area (just inside our main entrance & turn to your right). There's food when you wake up under canvas and food when you get back from a hard day at the beach. We've got a new phone number coming for booking tables and pre-ordering or take pot luck and come along. Just turn up for great coffee and breakfast...
The cafe is of course open to everyone - whether or not you're staying with us - but we do ask that you leave your doggies at home as we're a pet free campsite. If this makes life really difficult for you, cafe staff will give you a bowl of water for your dog which you can take up to the car in our free parking area at the other end of the meadow.
The Tipi Kitchen team roll out freshly made seasonal food in a laid back setting with homemade treats for campers & locals using sustainable ingredients from farm to fishing boat. The aim is to let you relax while family & friends enjoy everything that you haven't had to make - and no one has to do the washing up!
You'll find everything from breakfast & brunch to homemade cake & ice cream to evening food with pop-up nights (Thai/Modern British) always keeping veggie/vegan options on the menu and often serving salad & herbs grown here on site. Friday is always wood fired pizza night! The cafe is fully licenced for beer, wine and more grown up goodies...Happy Hour anyone?
As this is a seasonal cafe please make a point of checking whether the cafe is open daily (high season) or only certain days of the week (low - mid season).
Opening Times - as below, although this may vary according to booking and term times. Please check as required.
• Term Time - weekends only Friday evening - Sunday morning: 9am - 11am & 6pm - 8:30pm
